1. Recommendation #1: a full-body, deep, snot-dripping cry. It seems like I have one once every two years, which is not nearly enough. In the moment, it kinda sucks in terms of unpleasantness, because of the waterfall of sads and all the snot and some heaving and sloppiness; but then there’s the clearest and cleanest of tranquil post-storm moments we humans get to experience. As a bonus, crying and allowing all your fears and worries and anxieties to express themselves and move through you will make you less of a dick for weeks afterwards, odds are. Men folk: don’t be afraid— It’s humbling in all the right ways.
Blessed are those who can cry deeply. May you be one of them.
2. Recommendation #2: The last episode of The Good Place—episode 14, Season 4. So Good! Almost Six Feet Under last episode territory. You don’t have to watch the rest of this Netflix show’s philosophical exploration of what is morality and how should we live in order to turn on the water faucets when the main characters begin to understand that dying is the act that gives living its meaning.
Bonus insight: if you want to understand rules and regulations, Western Philosophy is your thing. But for the Great Matter of Life and Death, turn your philosophical mind Eastward. Send CxD a message if you’d like some recommendations.
3. Recommendation #3: Flowers. It is always wise to show our love with small gestures of care and beauty. Often enough, going to a flower shop will accomplish the task. But if all the flower shops are closed, do what CxD reader Jorge did for his Sweet Lady:

4. Recommendation #4: Always wear a mask when you go outside around other people.

5. Recommendation #5: Vote. More specifically, vote for an adult capable of compassion and patience and who knows how to read. Kindness in our leaders also helps. Not being a fearful hate-monger is also a nice quality have. To remember what these virtues look like, enjoy this lovely conversation in which a former Commander in Chief reminds us: “A lot of it is ‘What’s their basic character?’”
